“The Buzzard” – Bud Freeman And His Windy City Five (1935)

Parlophone; New York, December 4, 1935: Bunny Berigan-t/Bud Freeman-cl-ts/Claude Thornhill-p/Eddie Condon-g/Grachan Monchur-sb/Cozy Cole-d.

It’s Bud’s band, but I would argue that even though he had the contract, it’s Bunny Berigan that’s the real star of the show here. And with Cozy Cole keeping time on the traps! Bud Freeman trades in his tenor sax for a moment and opens up the song with a clarinet run.

Bud Freeman’s tenor sax run: 1:09-1:43.
