Frank Trumbauer and his Orchestra, featuring Eddie Lang (g) and Bix Beiderbecke on cornet.
In an era of “hot” trumpet solos and “jungle growls,” Bix Beiderbecke created a cornet sound that, although equally dynamic, was slightly less “hot” and visceral and with styling and phrasing sounding more refined and humanus. It could be argued that his unique and self-taught unconventional technique became the hallmark of the “birth of the cool.”
It looks like my earlier WordPress video of Bix songs has been blocked, after only a few views. Here’s a Youtube video repost that has 59,000 views on it! I’ll have to show this version instead. That’s too bad.
