“Daniel’s Blues” – Fred Gardner’s Texas University Troubadours (1930)

Okeh; San Antonio, Texas, June 9, 1930: Fred Gardner, cl, ts, dir: “Black” Tom Howell, c / Lee Howell, tb / Steve Gardner, cl / Chester Seekatz, cl, as / Tommy Howell, p / Bill Lewis, bj, g / John Gardner, bb / Jay “Bird” Thomas, d, v.

One of many Texas territory bands of the 1930s. Nice easy-going, bluesy, cornet work by Tom Howell.

Not a lot of pain or tension here in this song about a man who goes around stealing other guy’s women! But somehow, according to the title, he still has the blues.

A Youtube repost.
